A quick reference for the many acronyms that come up when talking about autism and special education.

ABA — Applied Behavior Analysis (Effective therapy for autism)

ADD — Attention Deficit Disorder

ADHD — Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

AS — Asperger Syndrome

ASD — Autism Spectrum Disorder

FAPE — Free Appropriate Public Education (A right guaranteed to all children in the United States by the federal government)

GI — Gastrointestinal

HFA — High Functioning Autism

HFASD — High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder

IEP — Individualized Education Plan

OCD — Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OMT — Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (Oral motor therapy)

OT — Occupational Therapy (Typically fine motor therapy)

PT — Physical Therapy (Typically gross motor therapy)
